PHILLIP REES
PHIL

1983 - 1988

Phil Rees became Musical Director in 1983.  He was a brilliant musician with an ability to play many instruments such as the Tuba and Trombone plus Flute and Saxophone while teaching at the "Central Coast Grammar School".  Born in Rockhampton, Philip commenced piano lessons at the age of eight and later he studied with Gordon Watson at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and belonged to the Chanel Choir.  TLCS entered into the City of Sydney Eisteddfods' performing "The Shower" at Willoughby Town Hall.

On the 13th March 1987 the choir performed "Olivet to Calvary" cantata at St. Patricks Catholic Church, East Gosford and also on the 15th April at Long Jetty Uniting Church.  Desmond Taylor was the baritone soloist, Barry Garret was the tenor soloist and Elizabeth Dilley was the organist.

Tuggerah Lakes Choral Society performed with Gosford City Orchestra at Gosford High School with guest artists for a variety concert on 4th July, 1987.  This concert was also repeated at the The Entrance High School's Dophin Theatre, Bateau Bay with Gorokan School Band and at Wyong High School with their school band.  Phil was very motivated and strived to improve the choir with quality performances that combined the choir with orchestration and guest artists.  In the choirs records on 25 June, 1988 Tuggerah Lakes Choral Society combined with other choirs within the Gosford district performed "Carmen".

Unfortunately membership declined under Phillip's leadership.  He departed TLCS at the end of 1988.  Since then he has become the Musical Director of the  "Central Coast Philharmonia" choir, trombonist and conductor of the Central Coast Symphony Orchestra.  Philip is particularly interested in choral music and in music for the young at heart. He currently directs the Junior Training Orchestra of the Central Coast Conservatorium and is busy writing and publishing music for young musicians..
